New Hong Kong Teams will compete in the 2010 Hong Kong Open


The new faces of the Hong Kong Artistic Cycling and Cycle-ball teams will sign-on at the 2010 Hong Kong Indoor Cycling Open. They will compete with the oversea teams of Germany, Hungary, Macau, Malaysia and Japan in the championships on August 1, 2010 at the Chai Wan Sports Centre.

The coach of the Hong Kong Artistic Cycling Team Lam Kam Bong said, ¡§The 14 top riders of the German Team are our strongest opponents. The 2 times Men¡¦s Single (U19) German champion Philipp will come with the 1st runner-up women team 4 riders. Wong Hang Cheong, who won the fourth of the last World Championships, will head-up the Macau team to give us a hard attack. The Hungarian rider will also demonstrate their best performance for their first turn-up. All in all, this will be a fierce battle for us!¡¨

Yu Pok Man has taken up the seat of Number 1 Hong Kong rider from Sam Yu, who just retired this year. He paired up with Ip Hin Bon and the team won a gold medal of Men¡¦s double in the last Asian Championships. The Star of Tomorrow Wong Chin To, who just won a silver medal of Men¡¦s Single in the last Asian Championships, always gives us big surprise for his promising improvement. They have just completed one-month intensive training in Germany. The silver medalist of East Asia Games Tsang Yu Sum, together with the backbone members Lo Wai Man and Wong Hiu Shuen, form a strong women¡¦s team. Lo Tin Hin, ex-partner of Sam in the fifth of men¡¦s double of previous World Championships, will make a breakthrough for both HK Team and himself. He teams up with Lo Wai Man to be the mix-double, which launch their first show-up in the event.

Cheng Fu Chi, the coach of the Hong Kong Cycle-ball Team, added, ¡§The Number 1 Hong Kong Cycle-ball team is split up into two dynamic teams, which was the 1st runner up of Division B of the World Championships last year. The old partners Lo Man Fai and Ho Wing Tai will pair up with Lam Shen Chi and Kwan Chun Hin respectively. The Malaysia team will come for revenge battle, as they lost to us in the last world championship to be the 3rd in same division. The national champion German team (U17) will also compete with full gear. ¡¨

The Hong Kong Team will host a 5-day intensive exchange artistic training camp at the Tsing Yi Sports Centre after the tournament from August 2nd to 7th. All German riders will participate in the camp with Hong Kong riders. At the same time, there will be the cycle ball workshop held at Chai Wan Sports Centre. The German cycle ball teams and Hong Kong cycle ball players will exchange their training methods. Germany will send her "A" team to compete in the HK Indoor Cycling Open Championships 2010 and participate in the training Camp


The Hong Kong Indoor Cycling Open Championships 2010, which is held on August 1, 2010 at the Chai Wan Sports Centre, will be a warm-up event for the World Championships in November 2010. Besides the big names from German, top riders from Malaysia, Japan and Macau, and our home team will compete with each other fiercely in the Chai Wan Sports Centre. Hungarian rider will also come to test our waters for the first time.

The Chairman of Organizing Committee Alfred Li said, "This international event is a test stone for the newly formed Hong Kong Team. Apart from building up their confidence in the international arena, it also provides an opportunity for the newly formed team to try out the chemical effects after the new setup. They are ready to fully show their potentials and fight for all the top three positions."

The German Coach Rolf Halter, former World Championship in Artistic Pair, will show us how strong his 14 members are. They include the consecutive two years German Artistic Men's Single (U19) Champion, Philip, German Artistic Lady's (U15) Bronze Medalist, Anne and two top youth cycle-ball teams. German team will arrive in Hong Kong on July 29 and start training in the afternoon of July 30 at the Chai Wan Sports Centre.

The Hong Kong Team will host a 5-day intensive exchange artistic training camp at the Tsing Yi Sports Centre after the tournament from August 2nd to 7th. All German riders will participate in the camp with Hong Kong riders. This is the tenth year of the camp, which is organized by Hong Kong and Germany alternatively basis every 2 year. At the same time, there will be the cycle ball workshop held at Chai Wan Sports Centre. The German cycle ball teams and Hong Kong cycle ball players will exchange and share their training methods with each others.

The Hong Kong youth riders have made significant improvement over the past few years and climbed up to the top tier of the world ranking. They will certainly learn a lot from the German team, which is highly regarded as the cradle of the youth development.
